I want to lean into Matthew 16:13-23 some more today.

In verse 17 Peter was commended for having the mind of Christ, and in verse 23 Peter was rebuked for having the mind of Satan.

This shift was not from ‘a godly thought’ to ‘an evil thought of doing wrong’.

It was from being ruled by natural thinking, albeit sounding nice and right.

In context, Peter was standing up for Jesus and wanting to defend Him and stop Him from suffering at the hands of men. This is, naturally speaking, ‘a good thing’.

But Jesus has said that it must happen. In other words, it is the will of God.

Therefore, a good thing is not a good thing if it is not what God has authored.

“Are you seeing what God has said, or are you looking through a natural lens, even if it is a good lens?”
