Good morning enemy-blessing people
Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Let’s be honest here; this is one of the hardest saying in the Bible! It’s easy to bless people we love but to bless those who persecute and abuse us; that’s unreasonable!
God’s love for us is unreasonable and He calls us to an unreasonable type of love for others also. This goes against our natural instincts and responses. This is a higher level that we are called to walk in.
This scripture repeats itself because of the importance of this principle that we are called to walk in. We are not only told not to curse and speak negatively about our enemies but we are told to go the next step and that is to actively bless them. It’s one thing to just not say bad things about them and exercise self-control, it’s another thing all together to go against every natural instinct you have and intentionally and sincerely bless our enemies.
Firstly we must believe it is possible. God wouldn’t tell us to do something that we can’t do. Secondly we must understand that this is a recipe for our success and freedom. Thirdly we must understand the potential to win our enemies over by our Christ-like responses.
Blessing our enemies; impossible no; difficult, yes; necessary, absolutely!
