#2058 – The Real Enemy

Good morning people who fight the battles that God has prescribed for them

In Ephesians 6, Paul talks about the armour of God and fighting a battle. Yet it’s interesting to note, this passage comes directly after he talks about relationships; husbands and wives, children and parents, employees and employers.

When it comes to our relationships in life, Paul tells us to do things differently – so different in fact, that he makes an analogy to the armour worn by a soldier about to go into a battle. We’re told to put on this armour of God so we can combat all the strategies and tricks of our enemy, the devil. He’ll do everything he can to destroy the relationships in your life – with God, your spouse, your family, your friends, your pastor, your church, your boss. This is what he’s been doing since the Garden of Eden, and he is still in the same business of trying to destroy our relationships today.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that people aren’t our enemy and he empowers us to fight for them and against our real enemy, the devil.

Over the next few days, I want to look at the armour of God from the point of view of fighting for our relationships. Today, I encourage you to meditate on the following verses and think about what God might be saying to you about your relationships.

Ephesians 6:14-18 (NIV) Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
