#2057 – Fighting For

Good morning people who fight for the good of others

Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Have you ever found yourself in a battle and before you have even started, you’ve become discouraged because you have seen what you are fighting against? I have and I’m sure many of you have too.

I know there have been many instances where armies have faced off against each other and one side has been demoralised by the sheer size of the enemy that stands against them. Yet the army that is outgunned and outmatched still goes into battle, not because they’re fighting against someone, but because they’re fighting for someone.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter what stands against us because we’re fighting for someone or something of much greater value. What we are fighting for is more important than the fear that grips us as we face the enemy that stands against us.

Nelson Mandela wasn’t fighting against apartheid as much as he was fighting for the freedom of people. Martin Luther King wasn’t fighting against prejudice as much as he was fighting for the equality of all people. Then we have the Apostle Paul who tells us we’re not fighting against people but for people.

Everyone will at times have fights that involve people. The question is: will we fight against people or will we fight for people?
