#2043 – Without Fear

Good morning people who are deeply loved by Father God

Sometimes I read a phrase that leaps off the page at me. Here’s one in the following verses:

Luke 1:74-75 (NIV) to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve Him without fear in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

Oh to serve God without fear!

Here’s what John wrote:

1 John 4:18-19 (NIV) There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us.

John reminded us that we can love God only because He first loved us. It’s God’s initiated love to us that empowers us to love Him in return. And it’s God’s initiated love for us that empowers us to serve Him.

We can serve God without fear because we are accepted and loved – we don’t serve God in order to be accepted and loved.

But there’s one other key part in our passage today. Here’s what it says: to enable us to serve Him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

The pursuit of one who is greatly loved by God, and from that starting position greatly loves and serves God, is a person who pursues walking in holiness and righteousness every day. We can’t take one part of scripture out of context.

And so here’s my prayer for us today: that as we receive God’s love and set our focus to walking in holiness and righteousness, we will serve God without fear.

Now that sounds good,
