#186 – Grace Focused

Good morning grace-focused people

Many times our focus is on doing the right things; fulfilling God’s law. Should we want to honour God and obey His laws? Absolutely! But should that be our primary focus in life? No. As long as this is our primary focus, we are focusing on what we need to do in order to be good enough. This leads to bondage and I do not want to live that way. When we focus on grace, we are focusing on what God has done for us, and what He has done is good enough for us.

Galatians 5:3-4 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

What an incredibly rich scripture! This passage shows that if satisfying the law is our objective, we better ensure we satisfy the whole law. None of us can do that; it’s impossible! Think about that for a minute. Do you ever do the wrong thing? We all do.

It goes on to say that if this is what we are trying to do, then we end up alienating ourselves from Christ. Why? Is it because we break the law? No. It’s because we have fallen away from grace; we are focusing more on the law than on grace. This is very important and something I am still learning. I don’t fully understand grace, but I do know that grace is more powerful than sin. When someone falls from grace, we look at the area of sin, God looks at the person’s focus on the law rather than on grace.

This year, let’s all endeavour to focus on God’s amazing grace. As we do, I believe that will be the thing that helps us best honour God in our lives.
