#148 – God Changes

Good morning people who can change

As we look at the lasting process of change, let’s look at David’s prayer after his sin of adultery & murder was exposed by the prophet.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Please let this sink in deeply. David didn’t just say “God forgive me from my sin and I will stop doing it”; he cried out to God to ‘I need you to change my heart’.

David rightly identified this is a heart issue! David knew he could try and act right and make changes to his behaviour but he was wise enough, and desperate enough, to cry out to God to change his heart. This is the only type of change that brings lasting fruit. We must stop focusing on changing behaviour. We must stop focusing on asking others to change their behaviour. Is changed behaviour necessary? Yes, but it will never be as lasting as changed hearts that result in changed behaviour. We need God for this!

John 15:5 Without God we can do nothing eternally worthwhile.

To summarise so far; Change is a heart issue more than a behaviour issue. We need to ask God to search our hearts and identify the root cause and not simply have us focus on the symptom. We need to allow God to start the work of change in our hearts. Tomorrow we will look at our part.

May God bless you more and more as you seek Him!
