#147 – God Searches

Good morning people who can change

Lasting change is not focused on changing your behaviour but changing your heart. The first step is to let God search your heart and this requires honesty and vulnerability. This is should not be a witch-hunt and a perfectionistic drive but rather as an issue is identified this becomes our first step.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

This verse asks God to see if there is any offensive way in us. This is so important. We normally look at identifying and changing offensive behaviour; God wants to identify and change offensive ways in our hearts. We know what our offensive behaviour is so we don’t need to ask God to reveal what we know. God is looking at the reason for the behaviour because He knows if He can see that change, the behaviour will be easier to amend. The result when God does this is He leads us in the right way; the everlasting way!

Can we simply search our hearts ourselves? Does God have to do it for us?

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things.

It is essential that God does the searching because the devil is the father of lies and will try to deceive even the most spiritual of us and our hearts are naturally deceitful. Change starts when we allow God to search our hearts.

Allow some time to be alone and quiet and ask God to search your heart today.
