#142 – Humble Yourself

Good morning people who desire to honour others

The cure for pride is humility. Pride is self-focused while humility is others-focused.

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.

God can definitely humble us but I guarantee you it is much better for us to humble ourselves! I believe God gives us a window of time to deal with and change our pride before He decides to step in. Although Jesus never struggled with pride, the greatest antidote phrase for pride is what He prayed in the garden.

Luke 22:42 Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.

Pride says “not your will but mine be done” while humility says “not my will but yours be done”. This is in relation to God but the principle is the same with human relationships. Humility gets over oneself; pride doesn’t. Honesty compels me to say that sometimes I struggle with this. I am so focused on what I want, what I feel, what I intended, what I think that I become self-absorbed and don’t listen to and respect others in a conversation. I know I need to focus on others more in these situations but knowing doesn’t always equal doing. Maybe it’s the same for you.

There is a lot more to say but for now I ask you to join me in walking in humility. Let’s be more focused on others and I believe the favour of God will be attracted to us more and more. Together, let’s get over ourselves and walk in humility.
