#141 – Ugly Pride

Good morning people who desire to honour others

I know that this is just for me and that you never struggle with this but I want to briefly mention the area of pride today. Sometimes pride can be blatant but many times it is very subtle. Sometimes we can know it’s there and at other times it manifests itself in a way that we didn’t even realise.

Pride is simply self-will and stubbornness. Pride says “I am better than others.” Pride says “I’m not going to listen to or learn from you.” Pride is often displayed in belligerence and a superior-than-thou attitude. Pride says “I can do it myself; I don’t need you or God.” Simply put, pride is very ugly and pride always negatively affects relationships and dishonours people. So what is God’s view on pride?

1 Peter 5:5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

We must deal ruthlessly with pride because undealt with pride will always end in destruction. We can’t play games and treat it as a little thing; it is a killer with an insatiable appetite. This passage clearly says God Himself stands opposed to those who are proud. We cannot succeed in God and hold on to our pride; it is simply impossible.

So how do we deal with pride? Let’s look at that tomorrow. For now, ask God to search your heart and see if there is any pride in you. If you are sincere, I believe that God will reveal truth to you so you can deal with it and move forward in Him.
