#85 – Change Me

Good morning hungry people of God

Many times we are so fixed on trying to change those around us that we do not stop to see what God wants to change in us. I once heard someone say that we all have a shovel or a rake in our hands. When we hear something from God’s Word and we have a shovel in our hands, we scope it up and throw it towards someone saying “That’s for them”. When we hear something and we have a rake, we pull it towards ourselves saying “I’ll take that”.

Which do you naturally do? When you hear a message at Church, does someone else automatically come to mind who you think should hear it or do you see what the Holy Spirit wants to say to you?

Human nature focuses on what others need to do to change. A wise person looks in the mirror and begins with changing themselves. It’s easier to deflect onto others but it’s more powerful to reflect on yourself. My experience is the more I change, the more it appears others change. At times this is probably true but at other times maybe it’s my perspective that has changed.

A special note for husbands and wives; quit trying to change your partner and honestly ask the Holy Spirit what He wants to change in you. Listen, obey and be amazed at what God can do.

Luke 6:42 How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
