#6066 – Lead and Serve

Good morning people who stay on track and who serve others well.

With the Bible, it is easy to quote one verse out of context and create a whole theology based on one facet of a multi-faceted truth. We need to handle the Word of God correctly.

With leadership and serving, there are two angles I want to mention today.

Firstly, we need to know what God has called us to do. If we are called to lead, then we must lead. Sometimes, this will mean that we don’t do every task that others expect us to do. The early apostles had to address this when they were expected to wait on tables instead of doing what God had commissioned them to do.

Acts 6:2 MEV So the twelve called the multitude of disciples together and said, “It is not reasonable for us to leave the word of God and serve tables.”

In this situation, if the twelve apostles had served tables, they would have had to leave the ministry of the Word of God – something God had commissioned them to do. We must not use serving in one area as an excuse for not obeying in the area where God has called us to minister.

Secondly, whoever we are, we are not too important to humbly serve those whom we are called to lead. Jesus demonstrated this powerfully.

John 13:3-5 MEV Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands and that He came from God and was going to God, rose from supper, laid aside His garments, and took a towel and wrapped Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was wrapped.

Jesus knew who He was and yet He washed the disciples’ feet. This is our example to follow. This is what it looks like to lead and to serve.
