#5721 – Hating Evil

Good morning people who love what God loves and hate what God hates.

Proverbs 8:13 MEV The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.

God is love and He can’t be anything contrary to love. At all times, God loves people, so much so that He sent His one and only Son to die for sinners so that people could come alive in Him! Our God is a God of love.

But even perfect love hates some things. Think about it like this: If God didn’t hate sin, He never would have sent His Son to die and pay for it! It’s because God hates sin and loves people that Jesus died! We must understand the heart of God better.

As the people of God, we know that we are to fear God; have reverential awe and fear of the Lord. On this point, we all agree. But we must look at what this verse says.

Part of the evidence of the fear of the Lord in our lives is that we hate evil; we hate pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth.

It’s not enough to love God, we must also hate evil.

It’s also not enough to simply avoid doing evil, we must hate evil.

It is true that many Christians need to learn how to love sinners better while hating evil (sin) – I agree. But we must not say that this is a false statement or just a cliché because it’s not always done well.

Loving sinners while hating sin is how Jesus lived and it is why He died. We are called to live the same way.

So, let’s pray and ask Father to help us do this.

May our hatred of evil prove our fear of the Lord.
