#57 – Old-Fashioned Times

Good morning highly favoured of the Lord

We live in a time where everything is instant; it’s all quick and easy. This thought and philosophy often translates into people’s time with God. This morning I simply felt God drawing me back to a focus on good old-fashioned quiet times. Now I am not saying there is a formula as far as time needed or location but I do feel it necessary to point us back to times with just us, God and His precious Word.

There are so many good books, DVDs, sermons and even daily devotionals and all of these are great tools to help us deepen in our walk with God; I use them and I encourage you to use them also. But we should not become reliant on them. Our reliance must come from God Himself and His precious Word to us. I believe every person needs to spend some time quietly waiting on God and listening every day. I believe every person needs to open up God’s precious Word and meditate on it every day. Reading the Bible and ticking it off our list is not enough; we must think about it, ask the Holy Spirit to make it alive to us and then read it while listening to Him.

Today maybe you need to re-establish these times as your priority. We need to do whatever it takes to ensure our time with God is daily. Let’s not strive and be legalistic, but let’s not be lazy and make excuses why it’s not possible. God wants to meet with you and I encourage you to make this the most important part of your day.

Psalm 1:2 His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Luke 5:16 Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.
