#5685 – Reclaiming Extravagance

Good morning people who live ‘over-the-top’ in love with God.

Following on from yesterday’s exhortation for us to reclaim passion, today I want to declare:

It’s time for us to reclaim extravagance in our worship and adoration of God!

I am preaching now, and I am doing so unashamedly!

We need more passionate extravagant followers of Jesus Christ!

The world needs an encounter with people who are ‘sold out’ for God’s kingdom purposes, and their whole lives give witness to God and His goodness!

It’s time to get rid of the ‘paid spiritual leader’ versus the ‘us’ divide that justifies our lack of passion and extravagance for God.

One of the most beautiful stories in the Bible is when Mary extravagantly poured out a very expensive jar of perfume on the feet of Jesus. Even His own disciples questioned ‘the waste’ and missed the beauty of the moment.

And yet this is what Jesus said about this encounter:

Matthew 26:10-13 NIV Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.

God loved you and I so extravagantly that He gave His one and only Son to die for us so that we could live in Him. God is an extravagant God!

May we be an accurate reflection of Him.
