#5265 – Upright Heart

Good morning people whose heart is turned towards our Father in heaven.

Psalms 119:7 NIV I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.

I love the depth of the Word of God! I also love how Father can speak multiple things through single statements. The Word of God truly is inexhaustible!

Firstly, our praise is to be with an upright heart.

I am drawn to a play on words here: A heart that is focused up is right.

By this I mean, the right focus is not inwards, or even just outwards, but it is upwards.

Remember when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He told them to pray to our Father in heaven. This is up and this is right for our hearts.

Secondly, learning God’s righteous laws is done best through the lens of praise from an upright heart.

In other words, the focus of learning laws is not centred around us doing better, but around God being good and God being for us!

When our whole desire is Godward – upright – our praise pleases God and we will learn God’s heart behind His righteous law.

The best thing we can do today is to think correctly about God and to think about God more.
