#4936 – Husbands & Wives

Good morning people whose lives release life into those who are closest to you.

Colossians 3:19 NIV Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

The greatest responsibility for husbands is to love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

What does this mean?

Our example of love is God. He loves so much that He gave His best for our best. He sacrificed. He laid down His life. This is how husbands are called to love our wives.

And we must not overlook the last part of this biblical instruction: and do not be harsh with them.

In the Greek, this means to not prick them with something sharp and to not make them bitter. Oh what a holy responsibility men!

How we treat our wives is so important to God.

Our equality in God’s eyes is that we are equally loved and equally cherished, valued and accepted by Him. Paul tells us clearly that, in Christ there is neither male nor female. This is not the removal of gender, but the inclusive call into the depths of relationship that God wants with every person.

And husbands, we absolutely have a part to play in setting our wives up to enjoy a relationship with God through the example of our lives; through our sacrificial love for them, and through not putting stumbling blocks in their way.

My prayer is that husbands and wives will walk together in the Lord, and that together they will flourish in all that God desires for them both.
