#4786 – Receiving Instructions

Good morning people who take the posture of a student.

Matthew 11:1 NIV After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.”

I’m drawn to the two words finished instructing, and I take note that this is what Jesus did with his twelve disciples.

As I consider the times we live in, I am deeply aware that for many Christians, the word instructing is a little too extreme. For many, we only want to think about God’s invitation.

I’ve said it many times, but permit me to say it again:

God is a God of commands, not a God of suggestions.

Pupils don’t tell teachers what to do. Disciples don’t tell rabbis what to do. Christians don’t tell God what to do.

Jesus is the one who gives instructions to His disciples – it is not the other way around.

It’s time for the people of God to once again take the posture of a true disciple. It’s time to truly and fully follow Jesus as He instructs and leads us.
