#4443 – Willing & Obedient

Good morning people who hear God’s Word and obey God’s Word

Isaiah 1:19-20 NIV “If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

The previous verses make it clear that God is not impressed by our sacrifices if we are not walking in obedience to Him and His ways. In fact, verse 14 He says He hates them with all His being. In verse 15 He says He does not listen when disobedient people pray.

Obedience is a big deal to God. In verses 16 and 17 God tells His people to stop doing wrong and learn to do right. Believing in God is not enough; obedience is required. Being willing is not enough; obedience is required.

In the Bible, the sword is symbolic of the Word of God. It’s purpose is to give life and protection. But that same sword of life and protection becomes a sword of destruction if we rebel against God’s authority and Lordship.

What changes the outcome of God’s Word in our lives is not God’s goodness and love – it is our obedience or rebellion. God is often blamed, yet we ourselves are to blame. Our choices result in either life or death.

It’s time to choose life my friends! It’s time to live according to God’s Word and to flourish in the goodness and protection of God.
