#4152 – Lamps Burning

Good morning responsible people of God

Let me share a couple of verses that triggered a thought.

Exodus 27:20-21 Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning. In the Tent of Meeting, outside the curtain that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to keep the lamps burning before the Lord from evening till morning. This is to be a lasting ordinance among the Israelites for the generations to come.

When I think about keeping the lamps burning, I think about us keeping our spiritual passion fuelled.

Yet we live in a time where many adopt a consumer mentality or blame others for where they are at. Many find it easier to blame others for why they are not passionate about the things of God than to take responsibility themselves. Many go to Church expecting the prayers or faith of another to change them. Indeed, others can help us on our journey of faith, but ultimately we need to take responsibility daily for stirring ourselves up in the things of God and allowing the Holy Spirit to change us.

I notice these verses mention clear oil. It makes me think about ensuring my life is kept clean. Again, another person’s prayer or faith will not clean up the sin in my life. This is something that needs to be dealt with between myself and God. He is a loving and forgiving God and He will completely cleanse us if we come to Him, but that is the key, we must come to Him.

We all go through challenges. We all have opposition to our faith. We all fight discouragement. We are all let down by others, including Christian leaders…

…but we are also all responsible to keep our lamps fuelled with clear oil. The wonderfully liberating thing is we also have the power available to do this! The power of the Holy Spirit is available for every person. Think about that.

I pray today is a day of new beginnings for those who need to stop and regain a correct perspective. I encourage you to fan into flame that which is in you, in Jesus’ Name.
