Good morning people who don’t miss Father’s great love and compassion

This Bible story of Jonah being swallowed by a huge fish is known the world over by Christians and non-Christians alike. It is a popular story, and in part, it’s probably because it is almost unbelievable.

But I fear we can miss some key truths in this story if we are not intentional and Spirit-led.

Jonah 1:17 NIV Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

God’s love and compassion for us, even when we run away in disobedience, is astounding! What a good Father He is!!!

Yet, God’s provision in our disobedience can seem less than pleasant.

‘The Lord provided a high fish to swallow Jonah’. The words in this sentence should not go together in our opinion, but God knows exactly what He is doing and what is needed to get our attention back on Him.

In our lives, Father sometimes orchestrates and sometimes allows unpleasant situations to lead us back to Him. Yet if we are not careful, we miss seeing Father’s fingerprints because we are complaining about the situation.

I’m reminded of the Prodigal Son story, and how after the lowest time in his life, he returned to his father. As we will see over the coming days, Jonah also turned back to God, but not until he was literally inside a giant fish!!!!

“Is there something unpleasant in your life that Father wants to use today to bring you back to Him? Is it possibly His provision, not His abandonment?”
