#333 – Other Opinions

Good morning people who want to understand

Proverbs 18:2 A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

Many times we enter conversations with a focus of convincing the other person that our opinion is correct. Many times I have done this; after all, I am always right, right? Wrong.

I remember two conversations recently, one with David and one with Gary that were absolutely wonderful (thanks guys!). We have a difference of opinion on a theological issue and we were able to have an open and healthy discussion. Our focus was not to be right but rather to gain understanding. There was no threat only mutual respect. From these discussions we all grew in our faith because we were forced to a) think about what we believe and why and b) explain why we believe what we do. When this is done in love and respect with a desire to understand and know the truth, it is always a positive and wonderful thing.

Today let’s focus on learning and growing rather than simply sharing our opinions. Let’s follow the way of love and listen to others in conversations. Let’s allow no place for pride but rather seek to gain understanding.
