Good morning careful people
1 Corinthians 10:12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
This is an interesting verse. You would think that if you are standing firm, the only exhortation then would be “well done!” So what then is the warning here?
In part, I believe there is a warning against spiritual pride, self-sufficiency and complacency.
Spiritual pride looks down on others because they are not as good as us. The truth is we are all on a journey. We struggle in areas that others don’t and they may not struggle in areas that we do. We all need God.
Self-sufficiency forgets that without God we can do nothing. We cannot live a holy and pure life without the Spirit of God. To get to a place of standing firm we needed God and to continue in that place, we will still need God.
Complacency rests upon previous success. Your enemy, the devil, roams around seeking whom he can devour. Your victory does not ensure automatic security for the rest of your life. We must be vigilant and we must continue to stand firm in the power of God and by our right choices.
