#256 – Public Prayers

Good morning people of prayer

Acts 21:5-6 But when our time was up, we left and continued on our way. All the disciples and their wives and children accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray. After saying good-by to each other, we went aboard the ship, and they returned home.

This passage stirred me about praying in public places. Here they prayed on the beach where a ship was about to launch. There would have no doubt been others around that did not know Jesus who heard and saw this. I wonder what their response was?

It made me think about praying in restaurants and other public places. Are we afraid of what people might think? Does this stop us from praying or ensure we pray quickly (possibly while doing a big full arm-stretch yawn to cover up what we are really doing)?

What could possibly happen in a positive way as a result of people seeing us pray? Could it create opportunities for us to pray for someone in need? What’s possible?

On the other hand, the Bible says ‘the fear of man will prove to be a snare’. How will we live? Many religions religiously pray in public every day; we too should not be ashamed to pray to our wonderful Saviour.

“Lord, help us to be bold and think of the positive possibilities as a result of our public confession in prayer. Strengthen us Lord.”
