#217 – Seek Understanding

Good morning people who love to know the ways of God

Nehemiah 8:8 They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was being read.

Many times we have a Bible reading plan and the focus is on ticking off the dates as we read. Our goal is to keep up to date and ensure the reading is done. It is great to be disciplined in our Bible reading and it is necessary because some days we are rushed and tired. Discipline is essential and great but it is not the objective.

As we read the Word of God and as we listen to it from others, our desire should be to understand what we read. Understanding is essential for the purpose of the Word to be accomplished but understanding is also not the objective, yet it is a vital key in obtaining the objective.

The objective of the Word of God is to reveal God clearly to us so we can know Him better. The second objective of the Word of God is to show us how to live. The Word is our blueprint for living and there is a principle in the Word of God for every situation that we face. We must seek understanding, not simply fulfil our duty to read the Word, and as we do our desire needs to be “Lord, reveal yourself to me and show me how to live”.
