Good morning people who submit and flourish under godly leadership
1 Chronicles 17:1-4,11,12 (NIV) After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.” Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.” But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in…When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.
Sometimes people do what they feel is in their heart to do and what they feel God is telling them to do, even when their spiritual oversight cautions or instructs them differently.
In this passage and at the time of this conversation, David was talking to his spiritual oversight, Nathan the prophet. After Nathan told David to do what was in his heart (to build God a dwelling place), Nathan came back the next day and changed his instruction to David based on what Nathan felt God had said to him.
“So what did David, the king of Israel, a man of God himself, do?”
David heeded the word of God which came through his spiritual oversight, and as a result, honoured God.
God is restoring apostolic and prophetic oversight to the Body of Christ and it is for our protection and good. Being under spiritual authority means being under God’s protection, not His control. As a man who is on both the giving and receiving end of this, I am passionate about it. I am under my father’s spiritual authority, and if he hears from God and instructs me to do something or not to do something (even if he has changed from what he previously said), I will do it and I will be blessed. This is a spiritual principle that is a huge blessing to me! I also know of churches which are flourishing and being blessed as they listen to what God is saying to them through me as a prophet.
So permit me to ask you today: “Are you under spiritual protection? Do you submit to your spiritual oversight when they give counsel that is different to what you feel to do?”
Blessing awaits you as you do.
