#2105 – Doing Good

Good morning people who follow the example of Jesus

Proverbs 3:27-28 (NIV) Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbour, Come back tomorrow and Ill give it to you”— when you already have it with you.

I’ll be honest and say that in some practical things I can tend to procrastinate (my wife says “Ah ha!”). Now on some practical things, it might not really matter, but there are some things that we ought not to procrastinate on.

Doing good to people is one of those things.

“Have you ever seen a need, one that you could meet, and said to yourself ‘I will do something about that…later?'”

I have. But as I read these verses I am freshly challenged by God to act now on opportunities to do good to people. There really is no time like the present. If I wait, I might forget. If I wait, the need might have escalated to another level, potentially an avoidable level if I had only acted on the prompting of God. Now is the time to do good.

I have always loved this verse about Jesus:

Acts 10:38 (NIV) God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him.

Jesus went around doing good. That’s a good enough reason for me to do good!
