#2086 – Forming Habits

Good morning people who daily make decisions

Here’s a scripture I have known for many years, but recently the Lord drew my attention to a certain word. I want to speak the truth in love to you today and encourage you forward in God. Let’s look at two verses:

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Paul instructs us to spur each other on towards love and good deeds, and he lets us know that this happens best in the corporate meeting together; at church. And then he says that some are in the habit of not going to church.

Now before you switch off, hear me out. God spoke to me and said “A habit never starts as a habit”. He had my attention.

The truth is many people are just going to take a Sunday or two off church, or maybe just take a short season off because they are struggling, or they might be just considering where to go because they are in between churches…

…One week turns into two, which turns into three, then a couple of months go by and the result is a decision or two turns into a habit…and before you know it, you have given up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing.

I feel compelled to ask you today: “Are you in the habit of not going to church?” If so I encourage you to make a decision to go back this week.

Tomorrow I will speak to some of your objections to going back. God is welcoming you home to His family this week.
