#20 – Decrease = More

Good morning Christ-like people

How do we become more like Jesus? Many times we focus on words like “I want more of Jesus”. My Dad has always said you can’t get more of God; you either have Him or you don’t. You don’t get a piece of God and then more of Him as you grow spiritually. John the Baptist said it clearly when he said “I must decrease and He must increase”. Jesus said “Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me”. He also said “Not my will but yours be done”.

The best illustration of becoming more like Jesus is one from my dad. He mentions a light bulb covered with clothes. Every time we make a God-honouring decision a cloth is removed. When we say no to temptation another cloth is removed. Each time we control our tongue another cloth is removed. When we are disciplined to go to Church when we would rather stay in bed another cloth is removed. We say “Look the light is getting brighter” but in actual fact the light has never changed its intensity but that which has hindered it shinning has been removed. So it is with our lives; every time we make God-honouring decisions our self will is decreasing and our relationship with God therefore improves; we see and experience more of God who we already fully have.

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Decrease today and see more of God in your life.
