#191 – Be Teachable

Good morning people who desire to learn and grow

I believe that being teachable is one of the major characteristics of greatness. We should all be people that want to learn from others. Pride says “Who are you to teach me!” but humility, which is part of godly character, adopts the position of learning and being teachable.

The book of Proverbs is full of words like wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel and sound judgement. It is also full of words like pride, arrogance, simple, foolish and lacking judgement. There are constant parallels between the wise and the simple, the teachable and the arrogant, the knowledgeable and the foolish. These powerful verses are not talking about natural ability but about a teachable heart attitude that is evidenced by a desire to learn. Which words from the book of Proverbs most describe you?

Proverbs 9:8-9 Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.

Do you receive correction and advice or do you fight against it? Do you receive instruction and learn from it? I believe constructive criticism and instruction make one wiser if they are received. Fools fight against rebuke; wise people learn from it.
