#172 – Love Critics

Good morning people who want to grow

Sometimes we treat those who criticise us in a different way than God instructs us to. Sometimes we see them as people to avoid, to react against or to simple tolerate in a hope they will go away.

Billy Graham was a master at turning critics into friends. Sure it doesn’t always work but many times we don’t even try. It’s much easier to simple react and let them have it or to ignore all that has been said. But maybe there is a kernel of truth, that if we embrace it, we will become better people. Listen to what Spurgeon said.

“Get a friend to tell you your faults, or better still, get an enemy who will watch you keenly and sting you savagely. What a blessing such an irritating critic will be to a wise man.” Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Through a grace-filled and humble response, we can often learn from those who speak so bluntly as well as win them over as friends. Billy Graham said “Hot hands and cold hearts never solved anything.” It’s true. Reactions are easy but a kind-hearted godly response and a willingness to learn from our harshest critics will help us grow if we embrace the kernel of truth and want to learn. Who knows, you might even win a friend in the process.

Proverbs 12:16 A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.
