Good morning people who want to run well
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
God has an amazing plan and a purpose for your life; that’s what the Bible says. It may not be exactly what you would have chosen but there is a plan and a purpose with your name on it.
In order to fulfil God’s plan, we know that we must get rid of sin in our lives. Sin always separates us from God; it did in the garden of Eden and it still does today. Sin doesn’t just create a distance from God before we accept Christ, but it also affects us since we made a decision to follow Jesus. We must receive God’s grace and forgiveness and then be disciplined enough to walk forward in victory over sin.
But this verse doesn’t just talk about dealing with sin. This passage draws a distinction between sin and all the other stuff that would hinder us running the race God mapped out for us. Every one of us does or will have things; stuff in our lives that is like a weight slowing us down. Many of these things may be good things but possibly not the best. They may be things that for a season were God’s plan but now are a distraction because God has moved on but we haven’t. Maybe it is a good thing that gets too much attention and time from us and now God says “Enough, bring some balance”. Anything in your life that is distracting you or slowing you down from fulfilling God’s purpose is a weight that needs to be thrown off.
I want to encourage every person today to consider whether they are walking the path God intends. If not, is there sin that needs to be dealt with? Is there other stuff, weights that need to be thrown off? Together let’s run this race of life as God intends.
