#152 – Grace & Truth

Good morning well balanced people

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

There are two equally right doctrines in the Body of Christ that must be held in balance. They are grace and truth. This is a huge and very important subject but I just want to briefly touch on it this morning.

Grace is God’s undeserved favour and something that we are all very thankful for. We cannot be good enough by ourselves but the grace of God washes us clean; whiter than snow! I am so grateful for God’s grace! I am eternally thankful that God wipes my slate clean when I come to Him in repentance. God’s grace saved me and God’s grace sustains me every day.

Truth is what God says about something. God has standards and laws but as we have mentioned before, they are a confirmation of His love and not a condition of His love. But He does have standards and a blueprint for right living. I am eternally thankful for truth also because without it I would be in constant doubt about how to live in an honouring way. I came to know the Truth and I enjoy daily discovering and meditating on the truth of God’s Word.

Both of these doctrines that are central to our faith must be held in balance with each other. There are some who err on the side of extreme grace without a healthy focus on truth; this can lead to compromised living. There are some who err on the side of nothing but truth without a revelation of God’s grace; this can lead to condemnation and a judgemental attitude. We must embrace both doctrines then the result will be maturity and the ability to love people as God has loved us. We are called to follow in His footsteps and that always includes grace and truth.
