#107 – Discipline #2

Good morning disciples of Christ!

Yesterday we mentioned prayer as a way of life. Today let’s look at meditating on the Word of God. This is huge; in fact many times if we get this right we will pray more because our mind is in the right place. Let me stress I am not talking about simply reading the Word, nowhere in the Bible does it tell us to do this. We are talking about meditating on the Word; focused thinking. Controlling our thoughts is very important. Many fears, disappointments, hurts, worry and questions often fill people’s minds. Does it have to be this way? I don’t believe it does. I am not minimising the challenges of life, but I am lifting up the power of the Word of God; the truth. It takes effort to think right, but we can do it.

Romans 12:2 (GW) Don’t become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect.

How do we change our thinking? By knowing the Word of God.

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Sin is not just doing the wrong thing; it is also the absence of doing the right thing, the godly thing. We can only know God’s desire if we know His Word.

Do you know the Word of God? Do you think about it often? Do you allow it to determine your thinking and as a result your actions? I strongly encourage you to make the Word of God a foundational part of every day; it is a discipline that is vital to spiritual growth.
