Good morning people who talk to God
Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
The reason the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray is because they saw Him pray; He was an example to them in prayer.
Now on one hand we are told to pray privately rather than going out of our way to be noticed. This is not a formula for prayer but rather an instruction about the motivation of our heart. We should not pray…or sing, or preach, or serve or do anything…just to be noticed; that must never be our motivation. But Jesus prayed publicly and so must we.
I want to speak to every leader for a moment. Are you an example to others in prayer? Jesus taught His disciples how to pray and John the Baptist taught his disciples how to pray. People need to be taught how to pray and they will learn from those they see praying. As leaders we must be intentional about teaching people how to pray.
But there is also a responsibility on every person to learn how to pray. It was the disciples who asked Jesus to teach them and we must also take the initiative to learn how to pray. Seek out people who you admire in prayer and ask them to teach you. Read some great books on prayer by people with a proven track-record in prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you how to pray. There are many ways to learn.
I encourage every person to learn how to pray and to also be an example in prayer.
