Good morning people who enter into the deeper truth of God’s endless love.
John 14:21 NIV “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
There is a clear pathway in this verse and it is beautiful.
Unfortunately, in this verse and in many others, we miss the wonder of God’s promise to us because of an unhealthy focus on what is required from us. I don’t want to exacerbate that today, but it must be included in the equation.
Loving Jesus is synonymous with obeying His commands. This is not to make us good, but it is to keep us free. Obeying Jesus shows evidence of humility and a declaration that He is Lord. This is right and it is good.
Now look at the shift of focus: When we love Jesus as evidenced by our obedience to Him, the Father will love us! The truth is, the Father loves everyone – including the world while it was lost in sin.
So, what does this mean?
I believe it is declaring that we will enter into and experience the love of the Father as we love Jesus through obedience to Him. WOW! There is nothing in existence like the extravagant love of our Heavenly Father – nothing can compare!
And then Jesus says that He will also love the obedient lover of Him and He will show Himself to them. Again, we can’t love Jesus if we haven’t seen Him by way of revelation.
So, once again, what does this mean?
I believe that Jesus will reveal more and more of Himself to the person who is walking in faithful obedience to Him and to God’s Word.
And then the wonderful endless circle continues! The more we see Him, the more we will love Him and willingly obey Him. The Father will love us, and His love will open us up further to more of Him and to more of His Son.
Oh what a blessed thing it is to be loved by God!
