#5024 – Loving Discipline

Good morning people who respond to the discipline of the Lord.

Proverbs 12:1 NIV Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.

What an interesting and challenging verse. Let’s be honest, it is quite confronting.

So, what does the Lord want us to see?

God’s desire is freedom. It always has been. In fact, we were created into freedom, and freedom is what Christ died for us to receive. Freedom is on God’s heart.

But God Himself knows, that the freedom He wants for us and the freedom that we desire for ourselves, cannot be found if we live life our own way.

Why?

Because we make dumb decisions! (Too blunt?)

Left to our own devices, we err, we stray, we drift. And not towards God and His ways. But away from God and His ways.

So, God, like a loving father, disciplines those He loves. We need to understand and accept this. Sometimes it is directly from His Spirit to us, and sometimes it is through those in our lives who watch over our souls.

In my life, I thank God for those who love me enough to tell me if I am off track. I don’t resent this – I respond to this. The result is greater freedom and life!

So, let me ask you a question:

Do you love and respond to discipline, or do you foolishly hate it and kick against it?

May we all stay teachable on our journey towards greater maturity.
