#4911 – Things Above

Good morning people who refuse to allow the natural to be your greatest reality.

Colossians 3:1-2 NIV Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

The order and language of Paul’s writings are important.

It is because we have been raised with Christ, that we are instructed to set our hearts on things above. This is all about our affection and desires.

And this above that Paul is referring to is not just above something that is wrong. In other words, it is not just about a natural elevation of your desires. It’s not from bad to ok, or from ok to good.

The above that Paul is talking about is the heavenly spiritual realm; where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

How do we have our affection and our desires pulled upwards?

By setting our minds – our thoughts and thinking patterns – on these same things above, not on earthly things.

The over-riding truth I see here as I write is that thinking better naturally is not enough. We are called as spiritual beings, as sons and daughters of God, as kings and priests, to set our hearts and minds on the things of the Spirit.

And not just the things which the Spirit is doing on the earth, but to have our hearts and minds on the eternal heavenly realm. This is true elevated thinking.

Let’s look at how we actually do this tomorrow.
