#4877 – Admonish & Teach

Good morning people who listen to the whole counsel of the Word of God.

Colossians 1:28-29 NIV He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

The greatest thing that we need to hear is what we actually need to hear.

Part of the challenge of modern conversations and communication is an unhealthy desire to hear what we want to hear. Many relationships have suffered because of someone saying something different than what we wanted them to say.

The true gospel of Jesus Christ is a need-based gospel. Let me explain.

God loves us so much that He doesn’t focus on simply trying to make us feel good. His loving focus is on ‘speaking the truth in love’, not on telling us what we want to hear in order to justify our decisions and appease our feelings.

We need to hear the truth because freedom is only found in truth.

Sometimes truth admonishes. This word means ‘to warn, to call to mind, to reprove gently.’ If we are off track, a loving person will speak in a way that helps us realign with the path of freedom and life. This is what the gospel does. This is what a focus on Jesus does.

But truth also teaches. It takes humility to learn from others, but humility is essential to receiving the gospel. Humility says, “I don’t know. I need someone to show me the way.” Jesus is the way, and when He is preached, revelation is released and life is the result.

It’s time to speak the truth in love, and it’s time to receive the truth in love.
