#4876 – Preach Jesus

Good morning people who focus on talking about the Lord.

Colossians 1:28-29 NIV He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

The primary purpose of preaching is to talk about and lift up Jesus Christ.

Preaching is not primarily about instruction for living. Yes, this is essential, and the epistles give plenty of time to this. We live in a time when we need godly men and women teaching God’s way through God’s Word.

But Jesus is the main message.

John the Baptist’s famous line in John 3:30 – ‘Jesus must increase, I must decrease’ – is an accurate filter for preaching and conversations in general.

One of the great woes of our time is the contact pull towards self. I struggle with this as much as the next person. In fact, I’m not sure anyone is immune to this.

So, if I have a simple message today, it is this: Let’s talk about God more.

When we are going through a challenge, let’s preach Jesus.

When things are going wonderful, let’s preach Jesus.
