#3608 – Difficult Things

Good morning people who allow Father to speak what he wants to say

Jonah 1:1-2 NIV The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.”

Here’s the second thing I see that will become clear as we journey through the Book of Jonah:

God sometimes speaks things people don’t want to hear and gives commissions people don’t want to accept.

We will lean into the ‘why’ later, but for now, Jonah did not like what God told him to do; he did not like or accept God’s commission to him.

Sometimes I feel we are the same when God speaks to us. It can be on something like “Forgive that person”, or it may be on “Step up and embrace the call to be…”

There are many reasons that we don’t always like what God tells us to do, and today, I don’t want to minimise any of them. The truth is, sometimes there are very “good” reasons why we don’t want to do what God says…

…but if this is the case, something needs to shift in our lives, and at its core, it is a belief about God.

“What do you mean Steve?”

Well, if we truly believe God is always good, He is always working for our good, and that His plan and ways are perfect, we will do what He has said. I’m not saying it is always easy, but again, our obedience comes down to our theology about God.

“How’s your obedience to your good Father?”
