#2314 – Live By Truth

Good morning people who live transparently before God

Psalm 13:1-6 (NIV) How long, Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for He has been good to me.

This is an interesting passage of scripture – a passage that we can all relate to at times.

Life is not always easy and we can struggle greatly with our feelings and emotions. In the first four verses of this chapter, David clearly pours out his feelings to God. He doesn’t pretty anything up, nor does he put on a mask. He is real.

It is OK for us to be transparent with God too. In fact, it’s essential. After-all, God knows how we feel. When we are transparent, we are honest with God, and He loves honesty with Him.

But then after the first four verses, comes the next two verses, and the tone is totally different.

“Is this the same man? Is this the same day and the same conversation?”

Yes, and there is a lesson in this passage for all of us.

The first four verses are how David feels. The last two are a confession of faith based in truth. David expressed both but chose to live by faith based in truth, despite his very real feelings.

“What do we live by?”
