Good morning people who go to extremes
As I talk more about this primary pursuit of knowing God better and loving Him more, I hear very sincere people caution me about balance – the need for a balance of this and a changed life as our dual focus.
I believe if we approach this focus of fulfilling the FIRST and GREATEST command with balance, we will always be out of balance.
Generally speaking, I do not believe that we are currently in balance with our focus of loving God and loving people as equal twin objectives. Before you stone me, let me clarify. These are BOTH essential for a disciple of Jesus Christ but they are not EQUAL. Yet we have unconsciously made them equal and I think part of the reason for this is a fear of imbalance. Some have seen the extremes of those “spiritual” types who are so “spiritual” that they are of no earthly use. I don’t believe this to be true because I would argue the point that they are not “spiritual” as God defines it but “religious”.
If we get to know the heart of God more, we will love Him more AND we will love people more. It’s simply impossible for this not to happen. If it doesn’t, then I question the validity of the revelation of God.
We should be completely extreme in our pursuit of a deeper relationship with God based on seeking Him and knowing Him more. This must become unequalled in our life pursuits, yes even in the fulfilling of the SECOND command.
Maybe it’s time for you to get out of balance and adopt an extreme view of seeking, knowing and loving God with all your heart as your GREATEST and UNEQUALLED pursuit in life. I have no doubt that if we all embraced this, we would all love people more. I also believe we would see an increase in signs and wonders, more souls will be saved, more Believers will change, we will have more impact in society….more, more, more…more of all that we strive for that has become an equal focus to loving God with all our hearts, soul, mind and strength.
God’s primary desire is not for you to work for Him, or to change for Him, but to know Him on ever increasing levels. This will positively flow on and affect everything else.
Matthew 22:36-38 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.”
