#88 – Good Martha

Good morning faithful servants of God

Sometimes well meaning people like me can make diligent hard-working people like some of you feel like a Martha and not a Mary. Let’s look at some of the awesome qualities of Martha. Martha invited Jesus into her house, not Mary. Martha was serving Jesus because she loved Him dearly. Martha knew that serving Jesus was important so she tried to get others involved in serving. Martha was a wonderful and good person. Martha was one Jesus loved dearly. We need more faithful people like Martha in the Church and in the world.

So why did Jesus say about Mary when she was just sitting at His feet and listening to Him, ‘Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken away from her?’ I believe it comes down to primary love languages. Listen carefully. In natural relationships, a father can work hard and buy lots of gifts for his daughter. He can be expressing love as best as he knows how and it is genuine. But if the daughter’s primary love language is time and not gifts, the daughter will feel something is lacking in the relationship. Sure she will know dad loves her but her desire will be to simply spend some time with her.

God’s primary love language is TIME. Jesus said to Mary ‘this time spent with me will not be taken away from you’. My heart is being moved for some of you today. You are good and faithful people and I want to commend you; I’ll say it again; I WANT TO COMMEND YOUR FAITHFULNESS. I also want to love you enough to say that in your serving God and your faithful use of the talents He has given, simply remember that His primary love language is your time. Acknowledge Him and listen to Him throughout your day; involve Him in all that you do. Some of us Mary’s need to step up in our faithfulness and diligence; maybe that’s you today. Some of us Martha’s need to step up in our time with God; maybe that’s you today. Maybe you aren’t a Martha or a Mary; today can be a day of giving yourself fully to God. Let’s learn from each other and grow together.

Luke 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

God bless you so much today; God loves you dearly!
