#73 – Not To Us

Good morning God-honouring people

Psalm 115:1 Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your Name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.

It’s interesting the writer here says ‘not to us’ twice as he starts this thought. Why does he stress this point? I think it’s because it is human nature to take credit and honour for the good things that happen in our lives. It’s human nature to be proud of our achievements and the strength of what we can do. Dare I say it, it’s human nature to say “Look at me and what I have done.” Sure we can do good things but God Himself is the One who gives us the ability to breathe and have life.

When good things happen, do we take the credit or does all honour go to God? I think this is a simple reminder that every good and perfect gift comes from above. We must be very careful not to allow pride in to our hearts due to what we have done; after all, without God we can do nothing. The children of Israel got themselves in trouble because they didn’t remember all the good things God had done for them.

Do you stop long enough to say “Thank You Lord; I appreciate all that You have done for me”? We need to remember, glory always belongs to God; not to us.

Today when good things happen, why not stop and say thanks to God
