#6658 – Sincerity Matters

Good morning people who love God with a sincere heart.

Hebrews 10:19-22 NIV Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

I believe that transparency and sincerity is important to God. In fact, it is more important than being perfect by our human standards. God wants us to simply yet deeply love Him.

I think about Peter and Jesus’ response to him after Peter had denied Him three times and cursed. Here’s Jesus’ focus:

John 21:15 NIV When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love You.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

Jesus was more concerned about Peter’s heart than his actions. This doesn’t excuse behaviour – it just shows what is most important to God. Sincerity matters.

Three times Jesus asked Peter this question, and three times Jesus re-commissioned Peter to be a spiritual leader – not based on Peter’s actions, but because of his sincere heart and true repentance.

What is God saying to you today?
