#5996 – It’s Time to Flee

Good morning people who run from temptation when it tries to seize you.

Genesis 39:10-12 NIV And though she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her. One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house.

Here’s three things I see in this story about Joseph.

Firstly, Joseph repeatedly said NO to temptation. He was not worn down by this and nor did he give in after some time.

Secondly, Joseph said NO to temptation even when it appeared that he could have gotten away with it. The Bible tells us that no other servants were there on that particular day. Yet Joseph’s integrity pointed him towards honouring His God always.

Thirdly, Joseph ran out of the house and away from the temptation. This is a make or break for many.

Joseph had to go to this house because he was a slave – he had no choice in this cultural setting. The truth is, you and I most often do have a choice when it comes to placing ourselves in temptations path or removing ourselves from the way of temptation.

And even though Joseph had to be there, he still fled when the tempter literally tried to take hold of him! He didn’t care about the consequences of fleeing in that moment. It was not an option to stay. He had to honour his God, therefore, he made the choice to flee.

It’s time to flee.

It’s time to not go to those places where you know you are more susceptible to temptation.

It’s time to run – not walk, but run – from the times the tempter tries to seduce you.

It’s time to be wise enough to flee!

Are there some changes that you need to make today in order to stay in victory and freedom?

Do you need to become accountable to someone about your area of vulnerability?

Please don’t believe the lie that tells you that you are the only one who struggles. You are not. Every person has areas that they know they need to actively make wise godly choices in. So, choose wisely.

May today be a day when you walk into the freedom for which Christ has set you free (Galatians 5:1).
