#5793 – Grace or Performance

Good morning people whose righteousness comes from the grace of God.

I hear the Lord say, “It’s either My grace or it’s your performance.”

My response is, “I choose grace!”

But how many people know that this is easier said than done. Sure, we can verbalise it, but how often do we default towards our own human performance as a measure for how we are doing with God? Too often I suspect.

Did you know that God’s grace really is sufficient for YOU?

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 NIV Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christs power may rest on me.

Jumping through hoops is not God’s plan for your life. Even our weaknesses – our feebleness in all its forms – is not a barrier to us receiving and walking in the grace of God. It really is true: grace is amazing!

I want to remind you that the word grace literally means cheerfulness at its core. Yes, it is the empowerment of God and it is His undeserved favour. But all of this comes because our God delights in us as His children! There is a joy in the presence of the Lord that is life-giving! God’s nature is exceptionally joy-filled, and this is grace!

Let’s go back to how we got saved, and we will clearly see it started with God’s grace, not with our performance.

Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

May we be positively and completely overcome by the goodness of the grace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
