#5770 – Not Talking

Good morning people who are wise enough to not say anything at times.

Sometimes the bluntness of the Bible is refreshingly needed. Take a look at today’s verses.

Proverbs 17:27-28 MEV He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise; and he who shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Knowing when to speak and when to not speak is an essential need for many to master. Hand in hand with this, knowing what to say and what to not say is also a game-changer.

In my bible, I have written the words social media beside these two scriptures. Yes, we’ve mentioned this before, but I do believe that there is still a long way to go towards wisdom in this space. Sometimes sparing our words is needed so that we do not spoil our character.

Wise people sometimes say less. This is interesting to me, but we see it in the life of Jesus many times. The motivator behind less words can be traced back to an excellent spirit.

Part of the reason for this is because wise people with an excellent spirit do not need to prove anything or try and get ahead of others. True wisdom brings a security that curbs the tongue and acts in love.

Proverbs takes this even further and tells us that even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise. Wow! I hope you’re hearing this. There are times when, he (a fool) who shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. Silence is sometimes best.

For all of us today, may we pay careful attention to the words that we speak, and when necessary, may we be wise enough to not say anything at all. May it all be for the glory of God.
