#5675 – Reclaiming Priorities

Good morning people who keep the main thing the main thing on a daily basis.

On the subject of ‘not worrying’, Jesus inserts this life-giving instruction that is deeper than many realise. Here’s what He said:

Matthew 6:33 NIV But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Our priorities matter. In truth, heaven’s priorities matter. And too often there is a chasm of difference between the two.

It’s time to close the gap on our priorities and heaven’s priorities.

Seeking God for God is the pinnacle of life. Doctrinally, we would all agree with this. But sometimes this central truth can get lost in the stuff of life. Sometimes we can lose sight of how this looks in daily living.

Jesus instructs His followers – that includes you and I – to seek first God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness. Yes, we are to seek God, but we must not miss the instruction to seek His kingdom and His righteousness.

God’s kingdom is God’s rule and reign in a realm. God’s kingdom is best described as ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. And this is what you and I are to seek first – daily. We are called to get up in the morning with a desire, focus and prayer of submitting to and living from the authority of God; His will being done and not our will.

God’s righteousness is what is right with God. When it comes to us, it is about us being in a condition acceptable to God. This starts with accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, and this happens by grace through faith. But from this secure and complete starting position, we are to daily seek to ‘be holy even as God is holy’; we are to seek God’s righteousness in our lives.

May heaven’s priorities become our priorities.
